@AJ For all the downsides to using a ME262, I don't think it's really worth it unless Mr. Anderson pulls something brilliant.

Honestly...the simplest solution for the Griks to shoot down allied aircraft is firearms on the Zeppelins. This would really only work if something like a machine gun could be developed, and the Zeppelins would have blind spots...we'll see what comes I do suppose, it all depends what a Grik is capable of using.

I am curious as to how long this war will stretch at the rate it is going. Technically, the Lemurians could proceed indefinitely assuming they could maintain the manpower required as they are in the circumstances where if they take out a smaller number of "trained" units, they can cause total destruction. The only debate is how well the allies can face the iron clad ships Kurokawa is developing.

i wouldn't necessarily want to see anyone acquire an ME262 just see the reactions of both the grik and the allies it would be completely advanced technology to the japanese and even the destroyer men thus freaking everyone out.

the grik wouldn't necessarily need fighters with wings just something that would maneuver enough to be able to shoot down a nancy, be semi effective at avoiding attack but also be able to attack the allied bombers.

@ AJ

The ME262 would NOT be feasible for this series in my opinion. Lets say hypothetically they did acquire a ME262 ignoring all chronology concerning their shipments and usage. They would have to arm it, they would need exceptionally high octane fuel for it (which is hard enough for their P40E warhawks) and they need to find someone qualified to fly one. There is a huge difference in flying a Warhawk and Me262...albeit this last issue can be solved by introducing a pilot. Honestly though...I don't see or believe that the jet fighters should enter the series like that.

Perhaps a small number could fly but...again, they're using what are essentially Hij Grik for the zeppelins alone. It would be difficult to find enough Grik to equip a small airforce, even for primitive aircraft. Construction for the Grik would be simpler, as they got rubber, but...ultimately designing it so a Grik could fly one would be problematic, assuming the psychological issues could be solved.

I guess i never really thought about the trek to europe only that once there they could attack the grik from the east, and that thats the only place where ME 262s would show up.

And in terms of the grik fighters the new more “intelligent, common sense” grik might be able to be taught how to fly slower simpler seaplanes like nancys.

@ AJ

To the first, the question is who would pilot those aircraft. Grik are, as the pilot pointed out, incapable of flying airplanes. Thus, it would be complicated to have proper high speed fighters. You may say have the Japanese fly them but...asides from only having one experienced pilot, would Kurokawa sacrifice the Japanese sailors who would be needed for the other projects? The allied bombers makes sense and are, technically, in development, albeit they need a lot to finish them off. That is probably on the way in my opinion.

As to visiting Europe...honestly...I just can't see it feasible in the near future. The big quesiton is HOW will they get there? The way I see it they got one of three routes:

1) Travel south of Africa and head north from there, as the Suez Canal wouldn't exist in this world.

2) Travel across North America and across the Atlantic.

3) Moving across the Asian continent to Europe.

All three are exceptionally time consuming and dangerous...plus the bottom line is what reason would anyone have for making such a trek? At least South Africa was readily accessible...Europe just isn't. The only way I can see the Germans getting involved is if a few armies vanish in Africa or heading to a part of Africa and gets swept to this world. Besides...as far as technology goes, wouldn't it be somewhat interesting to simply see technology advance on its own?

Mr. Anderson
I love your books and have read all of them up to firestorm. i can't wait for Iron Grey Sea to come out. Although i don't know what happens in it i have a few suggestions for the book following that.
i think it would be awesome if a few new machines came about:
Japanese/grik would create some sort of highly maneuverable, fast "fighters" to assist the blimp bombers and (possibly designed off of some Zeros that came to the other world). the Alliance should create some sort of wheel landing fighter bi-planes and also big 6 engine bombers. and maybe even a double long aircraft carrier that bombers/fighters could land and take off from.
also in an earlier post i saw someones suggestion that they go to europe, i agree. while in they would start to inquire a few odd ball things from that war (planes, tanks, jeeps, submarines, ships....). however germans are there and they have been doing the same thing so there ends up being a campaign agents the germans too.
those are just a few ideas that i had.

I will cite though...if there was ever plans to be involved, I want to be involved somehow. A set worker, helping produce or edit, maybe actually playing a small role...either way, I would genuinely love to be involved to some extent.

If there ever was one...I want to see it done like the Original Star Wars trilogy, and with anamatronics and puppetry and everything being an actual object... unfortunately it would be ungodly expensive and handling the large grik and Lemurian populations may be problematic.

You know...what I am dying to see is a part of this site or a separate site dedicated purely to fan fiction. I read a previous comment in the character sections on it, and it fits with a separate but different idea I had...bottom line...I would love to see the community come together somehow.

I agree with the about comments...I still shudder over what The Sci-fi Channel did to Ursula K. Le Guin's "Earth Sea" or heaven forbid M.Night Shyamalan rape it like he did "Airbender"..

@ Mr. Anderson

Thats sort of my stance...the issue is that the books are so detailed that a lot will be lost. Even Alfred Hitchcock said that the director loses 40% of their vision at the ebst of times...I would rather not see a horrible transition but rather more books eventually =)
