Over at Io9.com, they do a mighty fine write-up of the panel I was on this past weekend. I flew to New York City and attended the Comic Con which was quite an interesting experience! The panel was entitled: “Accelerate to Attack Speed” and consisted of moderator and Ace/Roc editor Ginjer Buchanan and authors Myke Cole and Jack Campbell.

Taylor @ Renovation – The World Science Fiction Convention

I wanted to announce my plans to attend Renovation, the world science fiction convention. Taking place on August 17-21st, I will be among the many authors and faces of the science fiction and fantasy community. This convention has come highly recommended and I hope to see you there!

My schedule will be forthcoming in the months to come and as soon as I know, I will post it here.

ConDFW Schedule

For those of you in the Dallas, TX area or if you are planning to attend ConDFW this weekend February 18-20th, here is the schedule of panels that I will be on starting Saturday!

Saturday:

Book Signing – 11 AM- (In front of the dealer’s room)

Warwick 12pm – Anatomy of an Antagonist: Good Writing for Bad Guys. Panelists: Taylor Anderson, Ciara Gold (M), Paul Black, Jack McDevitt, P. N. Elrod It is very easy to create a bad antagonist: stereotypes, tropes, and many traps await the author who doesn’t pay attention to the flip side of the coin. Our panelists discuss ways of making the Bad Guy more believable, and the possibility of redemption.

Warwick 4pm – World-Building 101: Creating Realistic Languages Panelists: Robert Stikmanz, Patrice Sarath (M), Teresa Patterson, Jack McDevitt, Taylor Anderson, K.B. Bogen Some of the most realistic worlds have their own languages. J.R.R. Tolkien’s Elvish language and Star Trek’s Klingon are two of the most famous examples (both having had dictionaries published and in Klingon’s case, computer games purely ABOUT the language and culture.) But not everyone is a linguistic expert. Our panelists explain some of the tips and tricks for creating a language of your very own or if you even need to.

Manchester 5pm – Religion in Science Fiction and Fantasy Panelists: Tim Powers (M), Taylor Anderson, Angeline Hawkes, Rhonda Eudaly, Shanna Swendson One of the hot topics in the history of man is religion. It can be a force for building, or a force for destroying. It is easy to cloak a story in religion, but can one afford to offend potential readers? Our esteemed panelists seek to explore the role of religion in a story, and how it has affected stories in the past. Note: This IS a hot button topic for many, so please keep things civil.

Sunday:

Warwick 12pm – What If…:Writing Alternate History and What to Avoid Panelists: Taylor Anderson, Linda Donahue (M), Brad Sinor, Tracy Morris, K.B. Bogen Many a question has been asked starting with “What if…” In fact, an entire comic series in the DC universe revolves around those very words. (And quite a few of THOSE issues make people groan when reading them!) How do you know when an alternate idea is a good one? When you find a good one, how do you proceed? Alternate History experts tell you how, and what’s popular these days.

Churchill 1pm – Publishing 201: Publishing Novels Panelists: Bill Fawcett (M), Taylor Anderson, Tim Powers, Paul Black, Michelle Muenzler Putting together a novel is an exhausting business, but getting it out into the cold, cruel world is the next big step. Our experts talk about how to get your novel read, who to go to, and what to say. And watch out for rogue contracts!

ConDFW Update

Taylor is sad to announce that due to some scheduling conflicts with ConDFW on February 12-14th, he will not be able to attend. This is bittersweet news as he had a lot of fun last year and hopes to attend again. We hope if you were planning on going to the convention, you still have a wonderful time!

Please check back on the blog for any appearances Taylor may make in the future. Hard at work at in the finishing stages of book 5, he’ll have lots to talk about once he emerges from the squall.

Panelist at ConDFW 2010

For those of you in the Dallas/FT.Worth, Texas area, Taylor will be attending ConDFW as a panelist. Here are a few pictures taken of his appearance there last year. It was a lot of fun and he looks forward to attending this time.

As you can clearly see, there is a lot of fun to be had at a Convention. From interesting genre talks to book signings. If you are around February 12-14th, please consider saying hello!

ArmadilloCon

ArmadilloCon was a hoot. I hated to miss the WorldCon, but I just couldn’t get loose. Maybe next year in Australia! I will definitely be at the ConDFW again in Feb(I think). I’ve got to double-check the dates. Anyway, I’ve just been writing, mostly. Book #4, “Destroyermen: Distant Thunders” is “in the can” and on track for its release in the spring. I’m currently working on Book #5 and I’ve still got room for a new beastie or two, so get your entries in for the “Order of Darwinian Delight!”
