New Cover Art for Iron Gray Sea!

What do you think?

This is the jacket description:

War has engulfed the other earth. With every hard-won victory and painful defeat, Matt Reddy and the Allies encounter more friends — and more diabolical enemies. Even in the arms of the woman he loves, there is little peace for Reddy. The vast sea and scope of the conflict has trapped him too far away to help on either front, but that doesn’t mean he and USS Walker can rest — and man and four-stacker must risk everything against a bigger ship.

Elsewhere, the long-awaited invasion of Grik “Indiaa” has begun, and the Human-Lemurian Alliance is pushing back against the twisted might of the Dominion. The diplomatic waters seethe with treachery and a final, terrible plot explodes in the Empire of New Britain Isles.

amazing! that menacing ironclad looking ship looks ominously dangerous. Can’t wait!

  2. On March 11, 2012 Red says:

Wow…have to say, it looks pretty cool and its an interesting deviation from the standard. Looking forward to the release of book 7.

  3. On March 15, 2012 Allan Cameron says:

I know the cover art doen’t actually represent the reality ofd the book, Firestorm has Walker firing at Zeppelins for example. But the Grik fleet sailing, I bet the general of the sea Kurokawa thinks it is premature, it’s never his fault!
“A bigger ship”, has saomething else come through or will he have to back up the Q ship in the waters around Japan? I have to wait longer ’cause the book has to cross the Atlantic, July 10 for me, grrr…

  4. On March 16, 2012 John Roth says:

Wow! Now I can see what Kurokawa has been working on. This is a great picture for the next cover.
I discovered this series last month on audible, and have listened to each one back to back. The narration is as good as the writing! Now for the first time I have to wait for the next one! Lol I hope Mr. Anderson never gets tired of writing because I am hopelessly addicted!

I for one am very excited! My wife is blind, and I have read every one of the Destroyermen books to her. We’ve both enjoyed them very much!

By the way, whoever does your cover art is a really good artist.

Wow it comes out on my brithday.Plus it looks like the Allies have machine guns (2 per plane it lokks like … for now) and I’ve always thought the Allies would come out with ironclads for at least defenive measures especially for the assalt on the “capital” in book 3. but now that the “Axis” has zepplins and ironclads and the Allies has the P-40s, I don’t know about armor pericing rounds”wink wink” if they came with any but it would help, also Thompsons are probably a little ways off still. Also I’ve thought about maybe using a “drop box” design similar to the Sharps rifles of the American Civil War that you could use in your books. Also even breech loading cannon, though they were a bit on the small side starting out. Sorry I got a bit side tracked I like history especially the American Civil War and World War 2.

  10. On April 06, 2012 Caleb says:

PS on closer inspection the ironclads appear to have no anti-air so score for Allies and thier guns point in only one direction no matter how many they have, they can’t use them if they can’t get a bead on them so anther point to the Allies and one more thing when your in one of those while getting shot at it would be really noisy so the things inside would be deaf after their first battle more then likely. but depending on how thick the armor is it could continue steaming till it hits whatever it wants. So point to “Axis” and at first the Allies won’t really know what their capable of so they’ll make mistakes some ships will get destroyed, but the ulimate outcome is yet to be desidedtill we read the book. And one more question Mr. Anderson would you be going to the NRA show this year. Thank you

  11. On April 06, 2012 Taylor Anderson says:

Hi Y’all. Glad you like the cover. Interesting points and speculations. True, the cover art is often a composite, so don’t assume much by it–but . . . that is a nasty looking booger, isn’t it? Eventually, I’ll post the specs and my concept drawings in the Gallery.

  12. On April 07, 2012 Rainey Beyer says:

These stories hit me to my heart. I served on the USS Walker (DD 517) in the early 1960′s. After one enlistment on a destroyer, I went submarines for the rest of my career. I can still relate to life on the old destroyers though.

  13. On April 08, 2012 Robert Likins says:

    Awesome!

I’ve been waiting for this. I kind of figured Kurokawa was building Ironclads, that seems consistant with the capabilities of Grik industry. I’m more interested in the Dominion, Firestorm really left a cliff-hanger there.

I wonder how long I should wait before petitioning my local library to buy a copy?

  14. On April 12, 2012 Taylor Anderson says:

Thanks Rainey, and thanks for your service to our country! A post from a real Walker destroyerman! (albeit a later one) Still a first, and a great pleasure!
Sorry about the cliffhangers, Robert. I try not to ever leave anyone literally hanging off a cliff, but bring them to a “breathing spell” to some degree–but it’s essentially a narrative of an ongoing war, and things aren’t always tidy. In Fred’s case, I guess I kind of broke my–if not “rule,” then intent, but I thought it was important to give a glimpse of what the Doms “at home” were like, and I simply couldn’t resolve his situation better than that in the space available. At least he is alive . . . His situation will progress.

Looks great. Very surreal image, I love air power vs. iron clads. Very cool stuff and I’m looking forward to this book when it comes out.

  16. On July 04, 2012 eduardo says:

The book just came out today, and I am already 100 pages in, can’t put it down! thanks again Taylor!

Loved this book! Gobbled it up the minute it hit the area. From the title I expected a tie-in to Typhoon Cobra (AKA Halsey’s Typhoon), with the possibility of appearences by DD-350, DD-354, or DD-512.
Instead I found myself delighted by the possibility of rescue, realization of a wedding, and fantastic action of an entire Fleet engaged in the western front. Take THAT ‘Admiral of the Sea’!

This series just keeps getting better. I can’t wait to see how the Walker is refit, and what will happen to Mahan/SS-19, and all my favorite Aviators, Snipes & Marines.

  18. On September 12, 2012 Bob G says:

Love the ironclads. They are so improbable but so cool looking. Like the CSA Virginia on steroids. Kurokawa would have to be a navel genius (or a raving mad man) to get them to sea. With the high freeboard and large sloping casemate and heavy cannon up high the metacentric height (GM) must be extremely low. Makes for a stable gun platform but all that top weight makes it looks like they would turn turtle in any kind of sea; and that is before any battle damage to the hull causes a free surface effect. Noticed that only two of the smoke pipes are putting out coal smoke. Are the two center pipes for ventilation? Under battle conditions I would think that all four pipes would be spewing smoke at a fantastic rate. They could literally lay down a thick enough smoke screen that they could double back on their wakes and hide.
This whole series is so much fun that I’ve read through all of the books twice with the exception of Iron Grey Sea. Will probable read through it all again in the month before the next book comes out.
Thanks for all the thought provoking material.
